Hummus

The creamy and versatile star of Middle Eastern cuisine

The days when hummus was still an insider tip are long gone. Today, this vegan chickpea dip from the Middle East has conquered kitchens around the world and earned a place in modern cuisine. Hummus is a wonderfully versatile kitchen staple and can be used as a vegan spread for bread, a flavorful dip or served with a mixed platter of starters.

Where does hummus come from?

Hummus is a true classic of Arabic cuisine and has been served in countries like Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Turkey for centuries. The name ‘hummus’ is actually the Arabic word for ‘chickpea’, the main ingredient of this delicious dip.

Hummus – the traditional recipe

Cooked chickpeas form the base of classic hummus, together with sesame seed paste (tahini), lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and Middle Eastern spices such as cumin. All ingredients are blended together until they reach a smooth, velvety consistency – and that’s all there is to it!
